I was trying to find out what ever I could about it as it was unfolding the russians "took it" the Ukrainians took it back and then made it not usable for the russian transports they knew would be coming if the russians could grab it again and hold it they kept russia from being able to use it for what was on the way or awaiting word to head in...you keep saying Ukrainian National Guard like they are like our monthly and 2 weeks in the summer soldiers they are permanent units and the unit from the Ukrainian national guard at Hostomel was a elite well trained unit the 4th rapid reaction brigade was stationed there they did a lot of the fighting they withdrew to not get bombarded to oblivion after engaging the initial landing russian rabble but kept engaging the russian rabble that were in the airport and trying to move out of the airport and joined the counter attack or were met up with by the counter attack probably more like it. I figured If Ukraine could hold out for 2 or 3 days they would stop the russians like they did In eastern Ukraine for the 8 years leading uop to the 2022 attack because the russians were/are a rabble Hostomel was the early sign that Ukraine would hold on and push back..the only problem wiuth that is it's like a cycle the rusians gather a lot of fodder then push them into the grinder at some point their piles overwhelm the Ukrainians who have to retreat but then the Ukrainians regroup stop and then push the russian rabble back BUT the russians are building a new giant pile of fodder to throw at them again

I'd be careful reading Putin's numbers into an admission since he starts out with a made up propaganda number of Ukrainian casualties (since neither Kyiv or Moscow are forthcoming with their casualty numbers) and then throws out a small number relative to it. It's much the same with Ukraine's daily numbers of Russian killed which is at 500k itself and climbing while few months ago France estimated 150k killed and 500k total wounded.
